Authorities in Chile have released video showing an explosion at a power plant that killed at least 10 people and injured dozens more, as well as several other people, and a nearby dam, after an accident at the mine.
The explosion at the Zimmer power station in the city of Santa Cuanacola killed nine people, including five who died, and injured 30 others, according to Chilean emergency officials.
The Chilean government’s Emergency Ministry said in a statement that the blast occurred in a building that was “in a state of critical condition.”
The Associated Press said authorities say the blast caused a fire at the power plant and a dam, which caused a flood.
The blast occurred at around 8:30 p.m. local time (12:30 a.m.-3:30 P.M. ET) Monday in a “critical condition” building that housed the Zimmers plant and the Dam Cárdenas dam, the emergency ministry said in the statement.
The AP reported that the injured included seven people in total.
The dam was also damaged.
The state of emergency was lifted in the province of Santa Barbara, and the dam was partially flooded, according the ministry.
The Associated News reported that a number of people were still being treated in hospital.
