A coal block that has been in the news in India for several years is set to fall apart in a major blow to the Indian power sector.
A power ministry official told Reuters the 2,000 MW block at Chhatarpur, in central Karnataka state, was scheduled to be decommissioned in July.
The block is located near the border of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan.
The power ministry said the block’s operator had been unable to pay the bills it was owed by the power company.
