The new plant is expected to open in the next two months, with an expected peak capacity of 1.2GW and an annualised output of 2.5GW.
The plant will be built on the site of a former power plant at Betharian that is now a multi-million dollar mixed use complex.
The plant will have three reactors, three reactors and a fuel storage plant.
It will have an annual capacity of 5GW, but it will be the first plant to be built in the US state.
The first plant will begin operating in 2022, and will have a total capacity of 3GW, with annualised power of 1GW.
This is in line with other major projects that have been completed in the last five years, including the Vogtle power plant in Georgia and the Diablo Canyon power plant near Los Angeles.
The new plant will not have any uranium-generated fuel, as the Vogel project did, and there is no planned nuclear waste disposal.
The US has not yet completed a single large-scale nuclear waste repository in the country.
It is not clear if the new project will be connected to the Vogels, and whether the plant will use water heaters to heat the water used to cool the plants, or whether it will use the existing reactors.
